Georgia State Route 136
State Route 136 (SR 136) is a state highway that travels west-to-east through portions of Dade, Walker, Gordon, Murray, Gilmer, Pickens, Dawson, and Hall counties in the northwestern and north-central parts of the U.S. state of Georgia. The highway extends from its western terminus at SR 71 at the Alabama state line, west of Trenton, to its eastern terminus at SR 60 north-northwest of Gainesville. Route description SR 136 initially heads east from the Alabama state line on Sand Mountain, where it continues into Alabama as SR 71 in the direction of Higdon in Dekalb County. After passing the unincorporated community of Gass in Dade County, which is located in the extreme northwest corner of the state of Georgia (see map), the route descends from about 1,600 feet down to under 1,000 feet elevation via two switchback turns as it approaches Trenton, the county seat. Trenton, Georgia
Trenton is a city and the only incorporated municipality in Dade County, Georgia, United States—and as such, it serves as the county seat. The population was 2,195 at the 2020 census. Trenton is part of the Chattanooga, Tennessee–GA Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Founded in the 1830s, the area was originally known as Salem. In 1839 Salem was designated the seat of the newly formed Dade County. It was renamed Trenton in 1841. The present name is a transfer from Trenton, the state capital of New Jersey. Whitfield County is a county located in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2010 census shows a population of 102,599. The county seat is Dalton. The county was created on December 30, 1851, and named after George Whitefield, Methodist evangelist. The "''e''" was omitted to reflect the pronunciation of his name. Whitfield County is part of the Dalton, Georgia Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Chattanooga-Cleveland-Dalton, TN-GA- AL Combined Statistical Area. Villanow, Georgia
Villanow is an unincorporated community in Walker County, Georgia, United States, which lies between Dalton and LaFayette. There are currently no schools that serve the community of Villanow. Armuchee Valley Elementary School was closed in 1992, following a fire that destroyed the classrooms and offices. In 1993, a separate fire destroyed what remained of the school, to include the cafeteria. In September 2010, the Armuchee Valley Community Center opened. The community center houses Walker County's No. 14 fire station, in addition to a sheriff's office, and voting precinct. History A post office called Villanow was established in 1844, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1934. According to tradition, the community was named when it grew large enough for someone to say "It is no longer a hamlet, but is now a village".
